GREEN SINCE 1919

Donated goods have the power to make a difference in people’s lives, strengthen communities and create a healthier environment. Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc. receives and sorts through thousands of pounds of gently used clothing and other household items every day to help keep millions of pounds of goods from polluting the Earth each year. Goodwill is doing its part to help keep the environment clean for future generations.

Since 2009, we have recycled 82 million pounds of goods as an organization. In 2012, we diverted 20 million pounds of goods from landfills.

This includes:

  • 1,345,520 pound of books
  • 390,186 pounds of cardboard
  • 10,505,866 pounds of clothing
  • 159,815 pounds of handbags
  • 521,732 pounds of linens
  • 867,680 pounds of scrap metal
  • 427,018 pounds of shoes
  • Approximately 6,000,000 pounds sold in stores

Additionally, we were able to recycle 633,082 pounds of computer equipment for the Dell Reconnect Program in 2012.
