Southwest Baltimore
In 2005 Goodwill’s Board of Directors sought to proactively attack the cycle of poverty that plagues a lot of low income families in Maryland. In response to the Board’s initiative Goodwill staff conducted a survey of low income neighborhoods in Baltimore and found that Southwest Baltimore suffered from the highest crime rates, dropout rates, and drug abuse rates in Maryland and yet had the least amount of alternaive solutions and programs. As a result, Goodwill chose to adopt the neighborhood of Southwest Baltimore and create a more holistic approach to the programs offered in that community.
Goodwill’s work in Southwest Baltimore extends beyond working with disadvantaged adults. Goodwill’s programs in Southwest Baltimore are targeted at the entire family from young children to teenagers to adults.
