Ready!  Set!  Play!  GOODWILL sponsored ATHLETIC TEAMS are another indicator of the commitment to making a difference in Southwest Baltimore – SOWEBO.

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake and The Monroe Street United Methodist Church have joined together to form coed youth basketball and softball teams. The basketball and softball teams are an alternative for the at risk youth in the community to have fun and learn important life skills both on and off the court.

The teams are coached by five key Goodwill staffers who have dedicated every Saturday of the year to coaching games in additon to weekly Wednesday night practices.

The team coaches have also gone above and beyond the call of duty and become engaged in the childrens lives and organized various post season trips, such as attending college basketball games and Orioles baseball games.

The impact of the coaches continued involvement in the lives of the children has helped inspire some to improve their grades and pursue a college education.
