Marge Thomas inducted into Goodwill Industries International Hall of Fame

In early February, at Goodwill’s Conference of Executives, Marge Thomas was inducted into the Goodwill Industries International’s Hall of Fame.  Marge was CEO in Baltimore from 1994 to 2011.  The Hall of Fame recognizes retired Goodwill executives who have made exemplary contributions to the overall Goodwill Industries movement.  Marge is known for her visionary leadership at five Goodwills and throughout the Goodwill movement. Marge’s career began in Milwaukee in 1974, where she was hired as an executive assistant. Marge’s career as a CEO began in 1980 at Horizon Goodwill Industries in Hagerstown. She also led Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Pennsylvania and the Mobile, Alabama Goodwill prior to spending the majority of her Goodwill tenure in Baltimore.

At Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc., Marge grew the organization over the course of 17 years where she introduced new programs and services to ex-offenders, at-risk youth and thousands of others in the community. She also strived to improve the quality of GIC’s workplace, landing the Goodwill on the Baltimore Business Journal’s Best Places to Work list.  Marge served on the Goodwill Industries International Board of Directors twice and was its first Chair of the Public Policy Committee. She is also a three-time winner of Maryland’s Top 100 Women and one of the first nonprofit leaders to be inducted into the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame.
