The Goodwill Path to Employment: Carmen

By August 3, 20172 Comments1 min read

Carmen was a single mom looking for an opportunity. Her only work experience had been running a part-time babysitting service from her home and volunteering at her church. She enrolled in Goodwill’s Buena Alianza program, which provides job readiness and case management assistance to Spanish speakers.

After receiving her Early Childhood Education Certificate, Carmen attended Goodwill’s Job Readiness training and learned how to create a resume and job interviewing techniques. Still having trouble finding employment, Buena Alianza staff advocated for Carmen with the Catholic Charities Head Start of Baltimore City. Catholic Charities of Baltimore created a position specifically for Carmen and she now works there as a bi-lingual Assistant Teacher.
