Reintroducing Free Pharmacy Technician Programs at Goodwill

Starting or advancing a career can feel overwhelming, especially when barriers like cost, education requirements, or lack of support stand in the way. At Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to shape a better future. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the reintroduction of our free Pharmacy Technician Program, made possible through our partnerships with CVS Health and Baltimore City Community College (BCCC).

This 18-week program transforms lives, turning career aspirations into achievable goals while equipping participants with the tools to thrive in a high-demand field.

What is the Goodwill Pharmacy Technician Program?

The Pharmacy Technician Program is an 18-week pre-certification course that prepares participants to take Maryland’s Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE). But it’s much more than just a course; it’s a gateway to a new career, new opportunities, and a brighter future.

With the support of CVS Health and BCCC, participants receive CPR training, learn pharmacy theory, and master pharmacy calculations. Training concludes with a 160-hour clinical rotation with CVS Health, offering real-world experience in a professional setting.

Successful graduates leave with the skills and knowledge to pursue certification and a rewarding career as a Pharmacy Technician. And the best part? This program is completely free to eligible participants.

Why Reintroducing This Program Matter

At Goodwill, we believe in equal access to education and opportunity. Historically, programs like these have had a profound impact on our community by removing financial barriers, fostering skills development, and connecting participants to meaningful employment. The reintroduction of the Pharmacy Technician Program ensures that more individuals, particularly those in underserved communities, can access the resources they need to succeed.

For many, this program is more than just a pathway to a career. It’s a lifeline. It’s about empowering individuals to overcome obstacles, build confidence, and achieve self-sufficiency. Each participant becomes a part of a growing community of professionals who support one another by sharing experiences, learning together, and celebrating milestones.

How Partnerships Fuel Success

This program wouldn’t be possible without the support of two incredible partners, CVS Health and Baltimore City Community College (BCCC).

  • CVS Health offers participants a 160-hour clinical rotation, providing hands-on, in-store experience alongside professional pharmacy teams. This ensures that program graduates enter the workforce ready to succeed.
  • BCCC hosts the in-person classroom instruction, layering foundational knowledge with practical skills for a holistic learning experience.

Together, these partnerships lay the groundwork for participants to not only pass their certification exam but to thrive in their new career.
